Dion Dove presents Stay Tuned
Stay Tuned is the debut short film from director Dion Dove and AmberDawn Productions. The film features the hilarious adventures of newly formed friends Freddy and his wingman Love. Stay Tuned pays homage to the Greater Washington, DC area which serves as the backdrop to the film. Everything from the music to the language is a nod to Maryland/District of Columbia. The characters were the strength of the film and this cast brilliantly brought them to life. All of the characters in the movie are truly relatable. They are seriously someone you know: a friend, brother, cousin, girlfriend. I laughed loudly countless times or said “mmmhmm” repeatedly during the 25 min film. Since I felt like I knew these characters, I wanted to follow along as they made the next move. When the film came to an end, I immediately wanted Dion to finish telling us their story. I could have watched a whole feature film. Stay Tuned is the laugh out loud, entertaining film about fun times between two friends. Dion has the talent to develop and tell all types of stories people want to see.
Last night I attended the debut of Stay Tuned at the AFI Theater in Silver Spring, MD. After the screening, there was a panel discussion (a la Inside the Actor’s Studio style) with director, Dion Dove, and 6 members of the cast. While I enjoyed hearing about how the film came to life and the hard work behinds the scenes, I was riveted to learn even more about Dion as a film maker. I went to high school with Dion Dove and our colleges were less than 20 mins away. As an adult, I know of him via social media and mutual friend chat. I could not be more proud of the professional Dion is today. Last night I learned Dion completed his Stay Tuned project while working a full time job. His family, close friends, and cast shared stories of how long Dion has been pursuing his passion of film making. Though its been a long journey, the night was so incredible. People close to Dion got to witness the moment his dream was actualized. For me, that was the best part of the night. The humility and gratefulness Dion showed to the sold out screening (2 of them) was quite touching. As a side hustler myself, I could only image how alive he must have felt debuting his project. Congrats to you my friend. I am so inspired.
